Boat water temperature recorded using Airmar through-hull transducer/thermometer connected to Northstar 962 chart plotter. Approx. 2 feet below waterline.

It was a dreary, cloudy, drizzly and rainly day on the harbor for the Boston Light Swim. A cold front moved through the area the night before bringing scattered thunderstorms all night long. By early morning on race day, the thunder had dissipated, leaving overcast skies and an off-and-on drizzle, with pockets of steady rain, during the race. The water was relatively calm. Water temperature was around 65 degrees for the duration of the race. As a result, the weather was not a significant factor for most swimmers. (It was more of a factor for the boat pilots.) Due to the poor weather, there were few recreational boaters in the harbor on race day. The only boat traffic were ferry boats, tug boats, and fishing boats.

Thanks to the Coast Guard Auxiliary that were on the water helping to establish a safety perimeter around the swimmers.
